We always have clients asking us if a consultation is necessary, as this can seem like a huge inconvenience when wanting to book in for a colour or perm ASAP.
But for us in the salon, this is one of the most crucial steps… why you ask? Our consultations consist of first of all wanting to get a clear understanding of what it is that you are wanting to have done, doing an allergy test and assessing 3 key factors with strand testing (a small cutting of hair that is removed in a gentle and subtle way).
The strand test is then assessed by;
- Colour/Perm testing- Checking how the hair looks when attempting to achieve the desired colour or perm. To make sure we can achieve the desired look.
- Porosity testing- is a test of the external structure of the hair, before and after the colour/perm testing. Hair that is too porous could be damaged further with a chemical procedure like colouring or perming, which can result in colour fading/fizziness/dullness.
- Elasticity test- healthy hair should have good elasticity, so when it is gently stretched it should return to its original form. Weak and brittle hair will have bad elasticity, which causes the hair to eventually break. This test is also done before and after colouring.
If we find through this 3 step process that your hair is weak or the desired outcome cannot be achieved and would pose a risk for colouring/perming. Then we are able to show you why and explain what we can do to Improve the hairs condition. (See our blog on improving hair health/condition for more information).
We aim to get strand testing done within 48 hours of your consultation, and will contact you as soon as this is done.
